The Story
70-90 days. One of the most widely adapted and genetically diverse corn varieties available today. Painted Mountain is a nutritionally dense, maize flour variety as well as a uniquely beautiful ornamental, containing every shade of color known to corn. Vivid oranges, gold, reds, and purples make the brightest fall harvest decorations. The 4–5-foot stalks bear up to 2 narrow, 7 inch long cobs. Can be eaten fresh, but if harvested for grain, it needs to be grown a month longer. This landrace variety is adapted to extreme drought conditions, is stress resistant and perfect for dry farming in any region. The seed was grown in natural, low input soils with no irrigation. Grains store well and maintain a high nutritional index. An excellent choice for a food security seed bank.
